Something is rotten in Eagle County
Thursday, September 02, 2004 - Something is rotten in Eagle County. Of all the ways I imagined the Kobe case ending, I never would have thought of this.
I’m thoroughly disgusted by what happened on Wednesday afternoon. I heard the DA dismiss the case and I felt like I needed a shower. The whole incident just stinks.
First of all, I never thought she was raped. Say what you want about victim’s rights, but the facts just didn’t add up for me and I thought she had consensual sex with Kobe and then got either star-struck or scared. One thing leads to another and we end up in court.
Secondly, if you were raped and traumatized by it, why would you then move on to have sex with a couple of others? Is that like treating a hangover with more booze? I’m sure by now you think I’m an insensitive lout, but c’mon, the facts aren’t adding up again.
Thirdly, I think pursuing a criminal case to bolster your civil case ought to be against the law. Did you think about anyone else? Did you think what this might have done to Kobe’s family?
What about the rest of us who had to endure months of news about sexual history and underpants? All for a maximum of $733,000.00.
Last, but not least, I truly feel bad for Kobe’s accuser. Again, I don’t believe she was raped, but she is clearly suffering from some sort of disorder. I hope she gets her life together and puts this behind her.
If she’s awarded any money in the civil suit, I hope she uses it to get some counseling.
In any event, I’m looking forward to putting this whole dirty mess behind us and moving on to new celebrity gossip.
Amy Lewis is still looking forward to the NBA All Star game in February
